Mumbai: Reliance Industries, owned by Mukesh Ambani, has launched a new artificial intelligence company named Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL), in which Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has acquired a 30% stake.
REIL will develop, market, and distribute AI services. According to the joint venture agreement, Reliance Intelligence will hold a 70% stake in REIL, while Meta will hold the remaining 30%.
The joint venture was announced at RIL’s annual general meeting in August 2025. Meta will provide technical expertise for building open-source models based on LLaMA.
This is not the first collaboration between Reliance and Facebook. In April 2020, Facebook invested $5.7 billion (approximately ₹43,574 crores) in Jio Platforms. The Competition Commission of India approved this investment in June 2020, resulting in Facebook acquiring a 9.99% stake in Jio Platforms.
