Fastag New Rules: The central government has introduced the Fastag annual pass to ease toll charges for vehicle owners. Priced at just ₹3000, this pass allows for travel on national highways and expressways for an entire year or 200 trips, whichever comes first. Registration for these annual passes started on August 15, 2025, and has received a strong response from vehicle owners. To enhance convenience for users, the government has also introduced two new rules.
Previously, vehicles without Fastag had to pay double the regular toll fees at national highway toll gates. This regulation has been slightly modified. Drivers wishing to pay the toll in cash will still have to pay double the amount as before. However, if they pay via UPI, the toll amount will be reduced. The government announced that payment through UPI will only require 1.25 times the regular fare. For instance, if a vehicle with Fastag pays ₹100, a vehicle without Fastag will need to pay ₹200 in cash but only ₹125 if they use UPI, as stated in the new rules.
Additionally, if a vehicle has funds in its Fastag and the toll collection system encounters an issue, the vehicle can pass through without any payment. A new regulation clarifies that there will be no need to pay via cash or UPI in such cases. The government confirmed that these two new rules will come into effect on November 15.
